Heidi invests nearly $26 million to establish Toronto as North American headquarters

  • On Tuesday, Melbourne-based AI startup Heidi announced $340 million in Series C funding, doubling its valuation to $900 million with existing investor Blackbird Ventures leading the equity round.
  • Heidi's platform automates clinical notes and administrative work for doctors, with annual recurring revenue surging from $1 million to $50 million in two years, driving valuation to nearly double the $465 million reported last October.
  • The $340 million comprises $100 million in equity and $240 million from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund, a debt-like instrument. The platform has supported more than 175 million patient visits and over 67 million clinical hours.
  • CEO Thomas Kelly stated the capital supports establishing a North American headquarters in Toronto, where Heidi will hire 30 staff. The company recently appointed Dr. Sameer Shaikh to lead clinical strategy across Canada.
  • Plans include adding 150 staff over the next year while expanding into Asia and the Middle East. The firm faces scrutiny regarding data privacy and accuracy of AI-generated clinical notes in health systems.
