Hosepipe Ban for Northamptonshire as Anglian Water Introduces Restrictions Across East of England
The restrictions affect 5 million customers as rivers and reservoirs fall below normal levels after a spring with 39% of expected rain.
On Friday, Anglian Water announced a hosepipe ban for more than 5 million customers across the East of England, with restrictions enforced from Saturday, July 11, at 1 a.m.
Record-Breaking temperatures combined with the driest spring in decades prompted the measure; the Environment Agency reported only 39 per cent of expected rainfall fell in the East of England this spring.
Dr. Geoff Darch, head of strategic asset planning for Anglian Water, said teams are working 24/7 to fix leaks while the company has invested in 1.5 million smart meters and a 300km strategic pipeline.
Domestic customers cannot use hosepipes for gardening or washing cars from Saturday, though watering cans remain permitted; Anglian urged businesses to "do their bit" by using water wisely.
Anglian Water is planning two new reservoirs in the Fens and Lincolnshire to ensure long-term supply resilience, while exploring desalination and water reuse solutions for the region's growing population.
