Hawkins is responsible for 3 TDs in return to his home state and West Virginia beats TCU 24-20
Michael Hawkins Jr. accounted for three touchdowns, and West Virginia’s defense forced three turnovers to secure its first true road win of the season.
On Saturday, West Virginia defeated TCU 24-20 at Amon G. Carter Stadium, securing the Mountaineers' first true road win of the season.
Following a difficult stretch, West Virginia's defense entered seeking improvement; Head coach Rich Rodriguez praised the unit for executing under pressure with 20 points allowed, the fewest in 14 Big 12 games.
Hawkins rushed for 94 yards with two touchdowns and threw a 13-yard scoring pass to running back Cam Cook, who finished with 90 rushing yards. TCU quarterback Jaden Craig passed for 372 yards but threw an interception.
With less than 1 minute remaining, defensive end David Afogho forced a fumble on a strip-sack of Craig at the 14-yard line; linebacker Ben Cutter recovered to seal the Mountaineers' victory.
Entering their bye week on a two-game win streak, the Mountaineers face three ranked opponents over their final four games. Rodriguez said this performance must become "a starting point" for consistency.
