Bavuma's and Jansen’s 106-Run Stand Sparks South Africa Fightback vs Australia
On Tuesday, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma and all-rounder Marco Jansen staged a record-breaking 106-run seventh-wicket partnership, taking the Proteas to 216-6 at lunch on day three of the second Test against Australia in Gqeberha.
Mitchell Starc claimed his 450th Test wicket early Tuesday, dismissing Wiaan Mulder to leave the Proteas struggling at 110-6 before Jansen and Bavuma shifted the momentum.
Bavuma provided stability with 76 not out after facing 189 balls, while Jansen struck 72 off 71 balls to help South Africa recover from their overnight position of 97-5.
Seamer Josh Hazlewood remained unavailable to bowl during the first session after falling ill on Monday, limiting Australia's ability to contain the pair early in the day.
Australia currently leads the series 1-0 following last week's victory in Durban, and a win at St George's Park would threaten South Africa's World Test Championship defense.
