Hansraj College Students Suspended Amid Controversy
The college said the suspensions follow allegations of violence, misconduct and social media defamation during its annual festival, and the orders remain interim.
Hansraj College suspended around 30 students, including four office-bearers of its Students' Union, citing allegations ranging from "defaming the college through social media platforms" to "use of derogatory language."
Between April 20 and April 25, the college issued five notices citing a "serious incident of violence, misconduct and breach of discipline" during the annual festival held on April 8 and April 9.
Principal Rama Sharma told The Indian Express that action was necessary to maintain discipline, stating it was wrong to "put false allegations on the college and defame it on social media."
Challenging the decision, former student union chief Parth Srivastava has approached the Delhi High Court, claiming he is being targeted after filing a Right to Information application, PTI reported.
On Monday, the student union condemned the administration's move and called for a protest to oppose the suspension notices issued over the past week.
