Hamas, Palestinian factions reject any ‘foreign guardianship' over Gaza

Hamas credits President Trump for pressuring Israel to end hostilities but firmly rejects former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's involvement in Gaza's future governance.

  • Speaking to Sky News, Dr Basem Naim thanked President Donald Trump for his role in the ceasefire and said `When it comes to Tony Blair, unfortunately, we Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims and maybe others around the world have bad memories of him.`
  • Linked to external proposals, the ceasefire specifies aid and reconstruction steps including entry of equipment to remove rubble and Hamas must hand over Israeli captives within 72 hours; at least 600 aid trucks are to reach Gaza daily.
  • The movement insisted the future administration of Gaza remains an internal Palestinian matter, rejecting foreign guardianship while Hamas said it would step aside for a Palestinian body but stay "on the ground".
  • On Friday, tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians began returning north as the Israeli military withdrew from coastal areas, while the Palestinian Civil Defence retrieved 63 bodies from Gaza City after the truce.
  • Gaza officials called for a comprehensive reconstruction plan while United Nations agencies prepare to distribute aid, sidelining the controversial GHF after hundreds died trying to reach its sites.
