The first traces of settlement in the salt-mining town of Hallstatt in present-day Austria are about 500 years older than previously thought. Archaeologists from the Natural History Museum in Vienna have discovered blades, animal bones and pottery during recent excavations that date back about 7,000 to 7,500 years.
