Workers Celebrate Real Living Wage Rise to £27k a Year for Full Time Hours
Almost half a million workers will get a pay rise worth over £1,250 a year, the foundation said.
The real Living Wage will rise to £14.10 an hour across the UK and £15.45 in London, providing a pay boost to almost 500,000 workers employed by accredited employers.
Marking its 25th anniversary, the voluntary campaign began in East London in 2001 and has grown to include nearly 17,000 employers committed to paying workers based on actual living costs.
Living Wage Foundation co-director Emily Sawh noted full-time workers will be over £1,250 better off this year, helping them achieve a "decent standard of living they need to thrive."
While some businesses cite recruitment benefits, UKHospitality chief executive Allen Simpson noted higher wages can be difficult to absorb alongside rising energy costs and business rates.
Although the gap between the voluntary rate and the Government's £12.71 national minimum has "closed quite a bit," Resolution Foundation analyst Nye Cominetti noted millions still face in-work poverty.
