“The Sermig, the government, is pressing us for this document to regularize us, our embassy does not have the capacity to deliver the document to us,” explained David Antoine, spokesman for the Haitian Community in Chile.
In the hours of Saturday, hundreds of Haitian citizens arrived at the embassy of their country in Chile, accusing alleged irregularities in obtaining documents in order to regularize their respective migration situations. In this context, some of the demonstrators forcibly entered the premises of the embassy, resulting in an intervention by Carabineros.
