AAA Offers ‘Tow to Go’ Program During Thanksgiving to Prevent Impaired Driving

AAA offers free rides and tows within 10 miles to prevent impaired driving during Thanksgiving, with 81.8 million Americans expected to travel this holiday, AAA said.

  • Starting Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 6:00 p.m., AAA is reactivating its free Tow to Go program for the Thanksgiving period, available to members and non-members through 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1.
  • With a record 81.8 million Americans expected to travel, AAA cited nearly 90% of drivers and 2023 alcohol-related fatalities as key safety concerns.
  • To use the service, callers dial 2-TOW-2-GO and AAA dispatches a tow truck that transports the driver and vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius; the service cannot be scheduled in advance.
  • The Auto Club Group says Tow to Go acts as a last-resort safety net, having removed nearly 30,000 impaired drivers over more than 25 years, and AAA urges holiday travelers to plan ahead.
  • Coverage is statewide in some states and limited to certain metros, including Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Denver, Charlotte, and Fort Wayne and South Bend.
