Hackers say they stole 6 terabytes of data from casino giants MGM, Caesars

  • MGM Resorts, one of America's biggest hospitality firms, is facing a significant cyberattack that has paralyzed its hotel booking systems and casino slot machines. The FBI is currently investigating the incident, and the company's share price has already declined by more than 6%.
  • The cyberattack, suspected to be a ransomware attack, has affected various aspects of MGM Resorts, including restaurant reservations, digital room keys, and corporate email addresses. This is not the first time the company has fallen victim to such an attack, as it experienced a similar breach in 2020.
  • The hacking group responsible for the attack, known as Scattered Spider, has claimed to have taken six terabytes of data from MGM Resorts and another entertainment firm, Caesars Entertainment. While the group has stated that it does not plan to make the stolen data public, experts warn of the possibility of copycats and advise casinos to be on high alert.
