Uniper Signs Long-Term Offtake Agreement on Green Ammonia with India's AM Green
Uniper will purchase 500,000 tons annually from AM Green's 1 MTPA Kakinada plant starting 2028 to support European decarbonization of CO2-intensive industries.
- On Jan. 12, 2026 Düsseldorf-based Uniper Global Commodities SE and AM Green Ammonia India Private Limited signed a binding RFNBO ammonia offtake for up to 500,000 tons annually.
- Uniper pursued the deal to diversify renewable and low-carbon supplies for European customers, while AM Green, a dedicated platform of the Greenko Group, focuses on producing renewable hydrogen and ammonia backed by strategic investors.
- The companies will work with certification bodies to ensure RFNBO traceability while AM Green's design pairs a pumped storage power plant with 2.3 GW combined wind and solar capacity plus European electrolysers and ammonia synthesis technology.
- The project will secure more than 600 local jobs and is expected to avoid around 2 million tonnes of CO2 annually while helping decarbonize chemicals, fertiliser, refining and shipping sectors.
- The companies said the deal helps establish supply corridors between India and Europe, and Uniper CEO Michael Lewis and Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty described the agreement as a milestone for India's role in the global energy transition.
