Gunmen kidnap Catholic school students in Nigeria's latest attack
- Early Friday, attackers struck St. Mary's School, a Catholic secondary school in Papiri, Agwara local government area, Niger State, shooting a security guard and abducting pupils and staff between 1:00 am and 3:00 am.
- Abubakar Usman, Niger State government secretary, said St. Mary's reopened despite warnings after 25 schoolgirls were abducted on Monday in Kebbi state.
- Local media reported 52 students abducted, while the Christian Association of Nigeria cited 227, including 215 pupils and 12 teachers, with Usman saying, `The exact number of abducted pupils is yet to be confirmed as security agencies continue to assess the situation`.
- President Bola Tinubu put security forces on high alert, cancelled trips, and sent Defence Minister Alhaji Bello Matawalle to lead searches while forces combed nearby forests.
