Former President Abdullah Gül, in his assessment of Iran, argued that the military interventions of the US and Israel have further destabilized the region. He also warned Tehran against pursuing "maximalist" policies.
Abdullah Gul wrote in an article: “Iran must distance itself from the maximalist position. It can achieve sanctions relief and an end to the blockade, and move towards a return to the international community without being forced to surrender. But this opportunity is running out. After the US midterm elections in November, the Trump administration will feel less urgency to reach an agreement.”
