Suspected Ebola Cases Under Isolation in Ahmedabad
Blood samples were sent to Pune for Ebola testing, and officials said no cases have been confirmed in Gujarat yet.
A 36-year-old foreign national from the Democratic Republic of Congo was admitted Tuesday night to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital's Isolation Ward after displaying high-grade fever, chills, and severe body ache for three days.
Health Minister Praful Pansheriya confirmed the man arrived at Mumbai International Airport on May 18 and spent five days in the city before traveling to Silvassa and Daman for four days, then to Vadodara.
Blood samples from all individuals were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for Ebola Virus Disease testing, while contact tracing identified three additional contacts, one admitted to Banker Hospital in Vadodara with fever.
Officials urge calm as test results remain pending with no confirmed Ebola cases in Gujarat, though Pansheriya noted the patient showed fever symptoms but no diagnosis has been confirmed.
The Gujarat Health Department has amplified screening for passengers from African nations including Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan, implementing three-level protocols designated by the World Health Organisation, with nine Indian nationals and one foreign national currently in home isolation.
