Shuswap's Quaaout Lodge Begins 'Building Back Better' with Groundbreaking Ceremony
The project adds wellness amenities and a 2028 opening target after years of planning and community engagement, officials said.
- On Friday, Oct. 23, representatives from the Little Shuswap Lake Band and project partners held a ceremony to mark the start of the Quaaout Lodge rebuild at Talking Rock Resort, more than four years after a fire damaged the guest wing.
- Years of planning and community engagement preceded the project following the 2022 fire that destroyed the guest wing at Talking Rock Resort, with officials aiming to rebuild the lodge better than before.
- Reimagine Architects designed the new 51-room wing using themes of water, earth, canopy, and sky, while Greyback Construction Ltd. leads the build with focus on supporting local Indigenous economic opportunities.
- Kukpi7 Diane Francois stated the milestone "represents our belief in the future" and commitment to youth, while Talking Rock general manager Cody Bell noted the community's dedication to "building back better."
- Anticipated to open in 2028, the new 51-room wing will connect to existing conference rooms and feature wellness amenities including an outdoor pool, hot tub, and sauna as part of a six-year rebuilding timeline.
