Federal investigators are reviewing weather, radar and maintenance records after the crash killed the groom and pilot and left the bride recovering.
On Friday, May 29, a Robinson R66 helicopter carrying newlyweds Dave Fiji and Jesni Fiji crashed near their wedding venue in Dawsonville, Georgia, killing the groom and pilot while the bride survived.
Earlier that evening, the couple celebrated with 400 guests at The Revere before boarding a helicopter bound for DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. Dave Fiji, a Delta Air Lines pilot, reportedly expressed concerns about limited visibility before departure.
The aircraft went down in a 10,000-acre wooded tract near the venue. Jesni remained trapped in the wreckage for nearly six hours before rescuers located her; she is recovering from cuts and bruises.
Federal investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are working to determine the crash's cause, including whether weather contributed. Authorities have not released the pilot's name, who flew for Prestige Helicopters.
In the wake of the tragedy, the family has relied on their Christian faith for comfort. George Fiji noted the couple met through church connections and grew from friends into life partners.
