As 90% of Americans say grocery prices are a major source of stress, the nation's top grocery chains have said they're passing the cost of Trump's tariffs onto consumers, according to a new report.

WASHINGTON, August 27.—As major supermarket chains increase commodity prices, they blame U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs for increasing the cost of living in households across the country. According to the Consumer Price Index, food increased by 3 percent in the last 12 months, with a 5.6 percent increase in the price of meat, poultry, fish and eggs between June 2024 and June 2025.
