In 2025, after decades of scientific warnings and real-world climate disasters (as we speak), we once again see a global agreement that fails to include the most essential commitment of all: a concrete plan to stop fossil fuels. Negotiations on a plan to transition away from fossil fuels need to be accelerated with measures that countries in the developed world can take, said Griša Močnik, dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and head of the Center for Atmospheric Research at the University of Nova Gorica, in response to the conclusions of COP30. If there is no market for fossil fuels, the transition will already have happened, he added.
