Grieving Son Walks in on 'Depraved' Lorry Driver Having Sex with His Mum’s Body
The judge said the attack was planned and imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order and a 10-year sex offender registration.
On Friday, Hull Crown Court sentenced Stephen Sellars, 62, of Hibaldstow, to 16 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexual penetration of a corpse committed while the victim's body awaited funeral arrangements.
Sellars bolted a gate, locked the door, and drew curtains before the victim's son and nephew caught him in the act. Judge John Thackray KC described the incident as a "clearly planned attack."
The victim's son described the incident as having a "massive impact" on him, calling the offense "unimaginable." He stated "there is nothing he could ever say that could justify it," noting he feels "numb and betrayed."
Judge Thackray noted that while legislation changed on September 29 to allow a seven-year maximum, he could only impose 16 months due to the law at the time. Sellars received a five-year sexual harm prevention order and 10-year registration.
Defense barrister Benjamin Donnell argued Sellars was a "good employee" with no prior sexual offenses since 1988. Sellars conceded his behavior was "depraved," acknowledging he "crossed a line that should never have been crossed" and attributed his actions to drug use.
