Test to Temporarily Switch Off Solar Panels on Sunny Days

In more and more parts of the Netherlands, the electricity grid cannot handle the peaks in solar energy. Grid operator Enexis is therefore introducing a striking measure: households with solar panels are paid to temporarily dim their panels. This is a trial in Helmond and Waalwijk, which will start at the end of May, De Telegraaf reports.

Grid operator Enexis is going to start a trial in the regions of Waalwijk and Helmond, in which residents are paid to temporarily switch off their solar panels on sunny days. The trial is intended to prevent overloading of the grid, where more power is generated than the electricity grid can handle.
