Moscow Comes Under Drone Fire Overnight, Grounding Flights at Major Airports
Russian air defenses intercepted 57 drones in Moscow Oblast as flight limits hit three major airports, officials said.
Yesterday, dozens of Ukrainian drones targeted Moscow, prompting the Federal Air Transport Agency to impose flight restrictions at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky.
Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that Russian air defense units intercepted 57 drones in Moscow Oblast during a 90-minute period overnight, with no reported damage.
Residents of Moscow Oblast reported a series of explosions near Naro-Fominsk, a town 50 kilometers southwest of Moscow, according to the independent Russian Telegram channel Astra; emergency services are working at the crash sites.
While restrictions have been lifted at Zhukovsky, temporary limits remain at Vnukovo and Domodedovo; two flights from Istanbul to Moscow were forced to turn back, TASS reported.
These strikes continue a pattern of increased aerial activity, following previous major drone attacks on Moscow's aviation infrastructure earlier in Oct, including incidents on Oct 23.
On Thursday night and into the early hours of the morning, Russian media, public groups and Moscow authorities reported drone attacks in the Russian capital and the Moscow region.
