Rockstar Games: Edinburgh-Based Grand Theft Auto Developer ‘Sacks’ 30 Staff in Alleged ‘Union-Busting’ Move
- On Thursday October 30, Rockstar Games fired between 30 and 40 employees across its UK and Canada offices, according to Bloomberg and union spokespeople.
- The IWGB says the dismissals targeted union-involved staff and were unlawful and retaliatory, with IWGB President Alex Marshall calling it "the most blatant and ruthless act of union busting in the history of the games industry."
- Those dismissed were part of a private trade union Discord channel and included visa-sponsored staff and employees with medical conditions losing essential healthcare access.
- The IWGB vowed to pursue every legal claim for reinstatement and interim relief, while Take-Two Interactive emphasised a culture of teamwork, excellence, kindness, and security-driven return-to-office measures.
- They come seven months before Grand Theft Auto VI, which is slated for release on May 26, 2026, and expected to generate upwards of 10 billion dollars, the IWGB chair said.
