Grand Theft Auto Developer Rockstar Games Denies Firing Workers for Union Activity
Following prolonged witness questioning, the employment tribunal involving Rockstar Games and the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain has been extended into November, with additional trial dates added.
Twenty-Three former employees are challenging their dismissals, claiming they were targeted for union activities, while Rockstar maintains the terminations followed unauthorized sharing of confidential information on a Discord server.
On Wednesday, Rockstar Vice President of HR Robert Spampinato testified the company was in "crisis mode" due to Grand Theft Auto development delays, denying allegations he sought to suppress union membership with "That's categorically not true."
The tribunal heard 722 posts across 109 Discord threads were cited as gross misconduct evidence, with the extension granted partly due to Rockstar's request for additional cross-examination time.
This legal battle coincides with Grand Theft Auto 6's release on November 19, occurring one day after the tribunal's newly extended closing dates, potentially amplifying scrutiny on the case.
