A successful test flight in the US saw a passenger plane navigate for over four hours without GPS, relying on quantum sensors that measure the Earth's magnetic field. The technology, called MagNav, improved accuracy by nearly 90 percent and could provide a future jamming-proof alternative to satellite navigation for both military and civilian aviation.
Quantum sensors helped the aircraft to navigation over the Pacific without GPS, increasing the accuracy of positioning by 89 per cent. A successful flight test showed that the aircraft could navigation over the open ocean without GPS using quantum sensors to read minor fluctuations in the Earth ' s magnetic field.
