- A federal court filing identified Omar under the name "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi," listing "Ilhan Abdullahi Omar" as an alias, though the filing does not establish fraud. Omar denied wrongdoing, calling the investigation politically motivated.
- Fine also questioned Democrats' criticism of the Justice Department, citing a separate financial disclosure inquiry that began in 2024 under President Joe Biden. He accused Democrats of likely opposing any Republican expulsion effort.
- While the House has constitutional power to expel one member, such action requires a two-thirds majority vote. Democrats would likely block any Republican effort, and investigation alone does not automatically remove a lawmaker from office.
