Google Has an All-New Gemini AI Service Built Specially for the US Government
Google offers US federal agencies an AI platform with pre-built and custom agents for research and automation, priced at under 50 cents per agency annually to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic.
- On Thursday, Google LLC announced Gemini for Government, offering a specialized AI platform at $0.47 per U.S. federal agency through 2026, including NotebookLM and enterprise search.
- GSA's recent deals followed rival $1 offers from OpenAI and Anthropic earlier this month, establishing value pricing for agencies and framing Google's $0.47 offer as undercutting competitors.
- Built for secure use, Gemini for Government meets FedRAMP High and includes identity and access management, threat protection, AI threat protection, data privacy, SOC2 Type 2 compliance, and offers Google Cloud Vertex AI, model tuning, and AI Agent Gallery access to federal agencies.
- The GSA said the initiative will facilitate faster AI deployment across federal agencies, and Google says Gemini complements its existing Google Workspace for government program.
- Policy shifts and Pentagon procurement mean tech firms compete as government AI contractors aligned with the AI Action Plan, with DoD awarding contracts up to $200 million and the FCC gaining regulatory roles.
