Google to Let People Track and Report More Personal Information

Google's update lets U.S. users remove sensitive ID numbers and non-consensual explicit images from Search with new bulk reporting and filtering options.

  • On Tuesday, Google updated its Results about you tool and non-consensual explicit image removal tool as part of Safer Internet Day, announcing two new removal options for Search.
  • Google says the updates give people more control over sensitive data in Search and the non-consensual explicit image tool targets real and AI-generated deepfakes amid rising AI-enabled sexual content.
  • Users must set up Results about you in the Google app to add IDs and contact info, then tap the three-dot menu on images, select 'remove result,' and choose 'It shows a sexual image of me,' tracking requests in the Results about you hub.
  • The changes reduce Search discoverability while leaving host pages intact, and Google says it will show links to `emotional and legal support` plus opt-in safeguards filtering similar explicit results for requesters.
  • Updates are rolling out to U.S. users over the coming days with email notifications and tracking expanding to most countries soon as Google shutters its dark web reports.
