Gemini Is Down? 'Majority of Users' Should Be OK Now, Google Says
Google says its engineering team is investigating the incident as users report error 1076 and 1099 messages across web and mobile.
On Wednesday, Google Gemini users reported widespread service disruptions across web and mobile platforms, encountering '1076' and '1099' error messages when submitting prompts. Over 1,200 reports appeared on DownDetector.
Gemini explained that error 1099 is 'almost always an internal issue on Google's side rather than a problem with your device,' while error 1076 indicates 'Gemini is hitting a wall with a specific chat thread.'
Reports on DownDetector surged past 1,000, with 58% of submissions citing app issues and 35% noting website problems. The disruption affects users across web, Android, iOS, and Chrome.
Google acknowledged the disruption as an 'Incident affecting Gemini' and confirmed engineering teams are investigating. Users discovered that immediately re-entering the prompt serves as a short-term workaround.
The Google Workspace Status dashboard continues tracking the incident with promised updates by Wednesday at 08:00 PDT. Google apologized for the disruption and advised users that errors 'often resolve automatically within a few hours once server loads stabilize.
