Gone Country: Jamestown about so much more than music
The one-day festival features multiple stages, with organizers expecting about 3,000 attendees and saying it has raised millions for cancer support.
Gone Country Jamestown opens today, Saturday, July 11, at a North Langley farm, headlined by the James Barker Band to raise funds for cancer research.
Founded 15 years ago by co-founders Chris and Jamie Ruscheinski, the annual charity project relies on hundreds of volunteers working throughout the year to support cancer patients.
Organizer Karen Lee Batten coordinated a new 60-foot "mega" stage for this year's festival, while a second "Outpost" stage at the opposite end of Jamestown offers lower-key musical programming.
An expected 3,000 attendees will watch performers including the Bargain Shoppers Club, JoJo Mason, Morgan Griffiths, and Nette Genereux alternate sets with Squamish's Dakota Pearl throughout the afternoon and evening.
Batten emphasized the concert serves as vital support for those affected by cancer, noting every participant has been touched by the disease and contributes to the cause.
