The government is finally abandoning the announced wealth tax and instead focusing on easing the burden on labor by introducing a tax-free mandatory Christmas bonus. It is also planning to change the taxation of standardized sole proprietors in the direction of greater benefits.

After a meeting with mayors and representatives of the economy of southeastern Slovenia, Prime Minister Robert Golob announced the introduction of a mandatory Christmas bonus, which will be tax-free, and changes to the taxation of regulated sole proprietors.
The Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Slovenia (ZSSS) welcomes the government's intention to introduce mandatory payment of a tax-free Christmas bonus. However, any change in this area must be well-considered, feasible in practice, and subject to social dialogue, stressed ZSSS President Andrej Zorko.

"We have definitively abandoned this idea, but we have not abandoned the idea of how to relieve employees of the burden on their salaries," Golob said after a meeting with mayors and representatives of the economy of South-Western Slovenia. He also announced the introduction of a mandatory Christmas bonus and a change in the tax treatment of normarians.
