Historic Piece of Eiffel Tower to Fetch Big Price in Auction
The 14-step section was dismantled in 1983 and is expected to fetch up to €150,000, Artcurial said.
- On May 21, Artcurial will auction a section of the original Eiffel Tower staircase in Paris, expected to fetch between $140,000 and $175,000.
- This spiral staircase section connected the tower's second and third floors when it opened in 1889, comprising 14 steps that have remained in a private collection since its 1983 dismantling.
- Sabrina Dolla, associate director at Artcurial, said the piece underwent complete restoration for the sale, describing it as "more than just a piece of history."
- Artcurial previously sold a staircase section for about $612,000 in 2016, demonstrating sustained bidder interest in such historic pieces.
- Other sections of the dismantled monument reside globally, including at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, gardens in Yamanashi, Japan, and near the Statue of Liberty in New York.
