GoFundMe for Michigan man pranked in viral video hits $500,000
- A viral video captures a prankster pretending to steal money from Michigan Red Baron employee Walt Z by playing a fake Apple Pay sound while he stocked pizzas in August.
- Walt became visibly upset during the exchange, explaining he was working late to support his four children and pay his mortgage. "I've got a mortgage. And I've got four kids at home!" he shouted.
- Luke Oakenshield created a GoFundMe page that has raised more than $330,000 from sympathetic viewers, writing, "This fundraiser is about standing up for a working person who is busting their butt and should not have to fear losing stability."
- Red Baron's parent company, CJ Schwan's, told the New York Post that Walt remains a valued employee and received the "Employee of the month" title following the viral incident.
- Online users condemned the prankster, labeling him a "wannabe influencer" for targeting the worker; reports indicate the creator has since deleted his social media accounts while donations continue.
