Gloucestershire schools to close amid extreme heat
Several schools will close early or move lessons online as temperatures could reach 40°C, officials said, during a red Met Office warning.
Numerous schools across Gloucestershire are closing early or shifting to remote learning this week, with Bettridge School announcing full closures for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
A Met Office red weather warning effective from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening prompted these widespread schedule adjustments, as temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius.
Administrators at Dorcan Academy and Brimsham Green have allowed students to wear school PE kits and encouraged suncream use, while several schools are closing at 1.15pm.
Bradon Forest School has cancelled the Sports Day scheduled for this week, while the Bradon's Got Talent final and Pride Picnic have also been postponed.
Some schools plan to return to normal operations by Friday, though staff continue to review arrangements daily based on local conditions and remain prepared to implement further contingency measures.
