Global Market: Euro Zone firms see slower price and wage growth, ECB survey shows
Euro zone companies expect slower growth in selling prices and wages over the next year, according to the ECB's latest survey, signalling that inflationary pressures remain contained despite higher energy costs. The findings strengthen expectations that the central bank may keep interest rates unchanged this week.
While tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain high, the latest eurozone inflation data brought good news for the European Central Bank (ECB). Two of the ECB's most closely watched indicators are particularly positive: core inflation, which excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco prices, and services inflation.
Euro area companies expect sales prices to rise more moderately and expect a slowdown in wage growth, an ECB survey revealed yesterday, adding to indications that the recent surge in energy price-driven inflation has not yet generated second-round effects on prices.
