Giant Creature Caught in Fixed Net; 5.5 Meters Long, Returned to Sea. Fisherman Says, "I Hope It Doesn't Come in again."

A female whale shark was recently caught in a fixed net set about 400 meters offshore from Chinen Kuhara in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture. Whale sharks are the world's largest fish, and can grow to over 10 meters in length. This one was about 5.5 meters long, and "that's about the size of a high school student," said owner and captain Tomo Terukina (69) of Chinen Kuhara in the same city.
