Ghana Part Ways with Coach Queiroz After Poor Start to AFCON Qualifiers
The Ghana Football Association said Queiroz leaves after two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying defeats and a 1-4-2 record in seven matches.
On Thursday, the Ghana Football Association and head coach Carlos Queiroz mutually agreed to terminate his contract, ending his second tenure with the Black Stars.
The GFA reappointed Queiroz on September 2, 2026, following his successful initial mandate that guided the Black Stars to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
Consecutive Africa Cup of Nations qualifying defeats—a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast and 4-2 home defeat to Gambia—left the Black Stars at the bottom of Group C without a point.
The federation is searching for a new coach before the Black Stars resume competitive play against Somalia in November to salvage their struggling qualifying campaign.
In his farewell statement, Queiroz noted "the necessary conditions were not fully established," signaling mutual recognition that a leadership change was required to reverse recent struggles.
The Ghana Football Federation ended Carlos Kerosh ' s mission by mutual agreement, following two consecutive losses in Africa ' s Cup liquidations, amid moves to contract a new trainer.
