Ukraine is trying to rescue its citizens from the front city of Olezhky. However, much depends on Moscow. Kiev believes that the Kremlin will direct people to the territory occupied by Russia. Therefore, anyone who takes a different path may put his life at risk.
Images of the Ukrainian city of Oleşki in the Herson region, under Russian occupation since 2022, almost entirely destroyed and deserted, have appeared. Since 29 October, a temporary ceasefire, agreed by Ukraine and Russia for humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians, should begin here.
Approximately 6,000 civilians, including 200 children, are stranded in the city of Oleşki, on the left bank of Niprului. After months of negotiations and international calls, the Ukrainian authorities announce the preparation of an evacuation operation.
