A close associate of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch who was arrested in Spain is suspected of acting as a “conduit” between the Hutch gang and garda officers alleged to have links to the international crime group.

The man, who is in his 30s, was arrested on the Canary islands on Wednesday as part of a long running probe into fears the Hutch crime gang was given sensitive Garda information. He is expected to appear in court in Lanzarote on Thursday morning.
Spanish police have arrested one of the leaders of the Irish criminal gang "Hutch" on the holiday island of Lanzarote, they confirmed on Thursday.
The arrested man, located in the municipality of Tías, had in force a European order for criminal organization and was captured in less than 24 hours.
