A 59-year-old ski tourer was caught and killed by a massive avalanche in South Tyrol's Ahrntal Valley on Wednesday. The tourist was skiing down from Gornerberg with his brother when, around 2:00 p.m., a 100-meter-wide and 100-meter-long avalanche broke loose in steep terrain just below the summit, the daily newspaper "Dolomiten" reported (Thursday edition). The German was buried about one and a half meters under the snow.
