German Jets Intercept Russian Spy Plane Near NATO Airspace

The German Air Force intercepted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft east of the Baltic island of Rügen.

According to the Bundeswehr, German fighter jets intercepted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft near Rügen and escorted it towards Kaliningrad. Hence, the aircraft was traveling in NATO-near airspace without a transponder signal.

The transponder was switched off, the crew did not respond to radio signals: A Russian reconnaissance aircraft has approached German airspace over the Baltic Sea. Interception fighters of the German Air Force responded.

A Russian reconnaissance plane approached the northeastern coast of Germany today before returning to Russia, accompanied by German fighter planes, the German Air Force announced, confirming the Bild news.
