German exports to U.S. plunge in May as tariff pause nears expiry
BERLIN, July 8 (Xinhua) -- German exports to the United States fell sharply in May, hitting their lowest level in more than three years as the threat of new tariffs continued to cast a shadow over Europe's largest economy. Read full story
German exports have fallen surprisingly in May due to the weakest US demand for more than three years. Compared to the previous month, they fell by 1.4 percent to EUR 129.4 billion, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
The US is the most important market for German companies. But Trump's zigzag rate in the customs dispute creates uncertainty. Exports have fallen to the lowest level in more than three years.
