KIA AMERICA AND HYUNDAI MOTOR GROUP METAPLANT AMERICA CELEBRATE PRODUCTION OF THE 2027 KIA SPORTAGE HYBRID
The new model expands Kia’s U.S. SUV output and adds the plant’s first hybrid vehicle, with capacity for up to 550,000 vehicles a year, officials said.
- On Tuesday, Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Savannah, Georgia, began production of the 2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid, marking the facility's first Kia model, first hybrid electric vehicle, and third vehicle assembled on-site.
- The plant's design enables seamless integration of different powertrains, allowing production of up to 10 distinct vehicles. Meta Pros prepared through training at Kia facilities in South Korea and West Point, Georgia.
- Kia North America and Kia America President and CEO Sean Yoon said the Savannah plant is a "clear testament to our confidence in this state's future as an automotive powerhouse." Kia aims to accelerate electrification of its entire line-up.
- During the ceremony, approximately 200 Meta Pros joined Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Kia Georgia President and CEO Stuart Countess as the first Sportage Hybrid debuted traveling to the stage on an Autonomous Mobile Robot .
- HMGMA adds nearly 2,000 Meta Pros to the workforce while Kia maintains capacity for up to 550,000 vehicles annually across West Point and Savannah facilities, supporting long-term job creation across Georgia.

Hyundai Metaplant begins producing third car
The Kia Sportage Turbo-Hybrid is the first Kia and first hybrid electric vehicle to be produced at the Ellabell metaplant. It’s the third vehicle manufactured at the site, since it began production in 2022, joining HMGMA’s electric Hyundai IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9. While the Sportage Hybrid has been in production in Korea, this is the first time it’s being manufactured in the U.S.
