Georgetown County leaders may walk back proposed fishing ban after public outcry
Georgetown County approved, at the June 24 meeting, the second reading of an ordinance that would outlaw public fishing, whether from shore, pier, boat or other means, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. from May 1 through Sept. 30. The ordinance received public outcry and county council chairman Clint Elliot released a statement clarifying the ordinance's intent was to prevent shark fishing.
