He led the secret organization of NATO for a long time, founded at the time of the Cold War from an agreement between the CIA and the Italian secret services, mainly to oppose a possible plan to invade Western Europe by the Soviet Union and the rest of the countries adhering to the Warsaw Pact, not least Yugoslavia.
