Generac recalls around 64,000 portable generators amid hurricane season

  • Generac Power Systems has issued a recall for around 64,000 portable generators due to reports of overheating, which has resulted in severe burn injuries. The fuel tanks of the recalled generators have a venting issue, leading to excess pressure buildup and fuel expulsion when opened.
  • The recall comes during hurricane season, when many people rely on generators after storms. Tens of thousands of people are currently without power due to the effects of hurricane Lee and hurricane Idalia, highlighting the importance of functioning generators. The recalled generators were sold from April 2011 through June 2023 for prices ranging from $3,300 to $3,650.
  • Generac is offering a free repair kit for the recalled generators, and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has declared the recall. The faulty generators were sold at Major Home Improvement and hardware stores nationwide, as well as through various websites. It is advised to immediately stop using the recalled generators and contact Generac for the repair kit.
