The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras announced the schedule for the 2027 Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering , introducing a new Robotics and Automation paper and revising the syllabus to align with evolving industry requirements.
GATE enters its 45th edition this year while serving as a gateway for admissions to postgraduate programs at IITs, NITs, and IISc. Organizers revised test content after five years to reflect current academic standards.
Registration begins August 14, 2026, and closes September 21, 2026, with extended registration until September 30. The online portal integrates DigiLocker and facial authentication to streamline candidate verification at test centres.
Tests are scheduled for February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027, in morning and afternoon sessions. Each exam consists of 65 questions carrying 100 marks, conducted over three hours.
Eligibility now includes third-year BTech students, with application fees ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 per paper depending on candidate category. Results will be announced on March 19, 2027.
