Gann Fire in Northern California's Calaveras County Reaches More than 3,000 Acres with No Containment
Cal Fire said the blaze has spread at a moderate rate, with no containment reported and shelters opened for displaced residents.
On Aug 3, the Gann Fire broke out in Calaveras County, rapidly growing to 3,760 acres by Aug 4 with 0% containment, according to Cal Fire.
The fire began Aug 3 near Hogan Dam and Gann Road, spreading uphill through dry grass and brush; it expanded from 30 acres to about 400 acres within hours.
Calaveras County Sheriff issued evacuation orders for areas east of the fire, including communities near Calaveras County Airport; shelters opened at The Valley Springs Veterans Memorial for small pets and the Calaveras County Fairgrounds for large animals.
As of Aug 4, Cal Fire assigned over 250 personnel, four helicopters, 50 fire engines, and 16 crews to the Gann Fire; no injuries or damaged structures have been reported.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Aug 4 that the state is sending 20 Cal Fire engines to assist with wildfires in Washington and Oregon; major fires across the Pacific Northwest have burned over 250,000 acres.
