The United States prevented a joint declaration on Ukraine at the G-7 summit. In order not to make the Group of Seven appear completely incapable of action, the Canadian Presidency sought to agree common political guidelines on a few simpler points.
The other six members of the G7, the group of seven most industrialised countries in the world, agreed with a "strong language" but a joint declaration would require the approval of the Trump administration.
