Austria’s expanded fuel-price brake has cleared the Nationalrat, while the government says it is working on nationwide protection zones around abortion providers, plus more stories from Austria on Tuesday.
The prices at the pumps are rising again throughout Europe. While Austria decides on a new fuel price brake, France relies on direct financial aid. In Slovakia, on the other hand, there will be cheaper trains starting in October.
In total, a fuel price brake is planned for a total discharge of more than 12 cents per litre of fuel.
In order to dampen the recent price increases in petrol and diesel, the fuel price brake is to be temporarily extended. A corresponding amendment to the Mineral Oil Tax Act led today to a heated debate in the Finance Committee. With the votes of the coalition parties, the initiative request was forwarded to the National Council, which is still to make the relevant decision today.
A total of more than 12 cents per litre of fuel is planned with a fuel price brake. The National Council will meet today in a special meeting.
Drivers in Styria are to pay less at the petrol station from 1 October. According to Verena Nussbaum, member of the SPÖ National Council, the fuel price brake is to bring about twelve cents of savings per litre.
